NJSBA’s annual Workshop is the place to connect with more professional development opportunities than you will find at any other education conference in the state. Whether you are a new board member or a seasoned veteran, there are programs that will help guide you in the important work you do.
We suggest the board work together with its administrators and district staff to maximize the Workshop experience. Review SCHED, the online conference schedule, before Workshop, and plan ahead. Below are some ideas to consider:
- Review the goals of your district and decide which programs address your district needs and goals.
- Identify the specific sessions on SCHED and on the Workshop exhibit floor that will assist you in achieving your personal professional development goals.
- Decide who on your district team, will represent the district at various sessions, and who will meet with the appropriate vendors on the exhibit floor.
- Conduct a formal debriefing with your district team after Workshop to share what you learned at different sessions.
Specific Workshop programs are added to the agenda throughout the spring and summer. Topics that will be covered at Workshop 2017 include student achievement; pending education legislation; how cooperation between labor and management can help to foster achievement for all students; special education; school finance, funding and cost-saving opportunities; shared services; energy solutions; insurance;; integrative STEAM; sustainable and health schools; facilities, building and grounds; using social media; school safety and security; school law; and technology, digital learning and distance learning; and more.
